school year to receive one of the three scholarships being offered based on their GPA of 2.5 or higher, extracurricular activities, needs, and education/career goals. Applications may be picked up from the office on each property and must be turned back to your property manager. All applications must be turned in no later than May 7, 2024.

Limestone Courts Housekeeping

The dates scheduled for Annual Housekeeping in March for Limestone Courts will be sent out in a memo at a later date. Be sure to have your units clean and ready for inspection. Also, remember to have your front screen doors unlocked. Also, make sure if you have any repairs that need to be done before your housekeeping dates are sent out to have already called them in. Remember Me?

On Feb. 21, 1933, Eunice Kathleen Waymon was born in North Carolina. You may know this American singer-songwriter better by her stage name, Nina Simone. Crank up her first hit single, "I Loves You, Porgy," and learn a little more about this influential figure.

  • Her career began with a love for the piano. She began practicing the instrument at age 3 and had her first classical recital when she was 12.
  • She adopted the name Nina Simone when she began singing and playing cocktail piano in New Jersey in 1954.
  • Featured on her debut album "Little Girl Blue" (1959), Simone's first big hit was a cover of "I Loves You, Porgy" from the 1935 opera "Porgy and Bess." "My Baby Just Cares for Me" was another favorite on the record.
  • Simone sang many songs about injustice during her time as a civil rights activist. In her 1991 autobiography "I Put a Spell on You," she said, "I was needed, and I could sing something to help my people."
  • You couldn't pin her into a category: Simone sang it all, from classic, folk, and gospel to blues, jazz, and R&B. She recorded over 40 albums in the first 16 years of her professional career.
  • Other famous recordings include "I Put a Spell on You," "Feeling Good," and "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood."
  • Simone was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
