Hello September
September's Starry Flower:
As potted mums hit stores this month, containers of daisy-like asters are often seen displayed with them. September's birth flower, the aster, blooms in late summer through autumn,
bringing hues of blue, purple, pink, and white to the garden. Aster is the Greek word for star, describing the shape of the flower's fanned petals.

Resident Council Meetings
The Resident Council will hold meetings at each site. The schedule will be as follows:
Limestone Courts: August 10 th at 5 pm
Colonial Heights: August 13 th at 5 pm
Beltline Courts: August 18 th at 4:30 pm
Granard Courts: August 19 th at 5 pm

Board Meeting
The Board Meeting will be held Tuesday, September 22nd, 2026, at 6:00 pm at the Beltline Main Office.
Pest Control
Pest control and filter change will take place Thursday, September 17th, 2026, at Granard Courts and Colonial Heights. Residents will be notified of the date in advance. Please make sure to have your front screen door unlocked so that maintenance and the pest control person may enter your unit.

Housekeeping Inspections
Limestone Housekeeping inspections will be held Tuesday, September 1st, Wednesday, September 2nd, and Thursday, September 3rd, 2026. You will receive a memo in advance as a reminder of these dates. Please remember to have your apartment cleaned and ready, and also have your front screen door unlocked. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

The nation's annual remembrance of 9/11, Patriot Day is also a National Day of Service. Since 2002, people across America have paid tribute to the victims, survivors, and heroes of Sept. 11 by volunteering in community service projects.
Stories of Alzheimer's Disease
In observance of World Alzheimer's Day on Sept. 21, consider reviewing these books and movies to gain perspective and insight into the lives of those impacted by the disease.
"Iris." This 2001 film is based on John Bayley's 1999 memoir "Elegy for Iris," about the disease's effect on his wife, celebrated British writer Iris Murdoch. Starring Judi Dench and Kate Winslet as Murdoch at different ages, the movie earned Jim Broadbent a best supporting actor Oscar for his portrayal of Bayley.
"Still Alice." Author Lisa Genova's 2007 bestseller was made into a critically acclaimed movie in 2014. Julianne Moore won the best actress Oscar for her role as Alice Howland, a professor with early-onset Alzheimer's disease.
"We Are Not Ourselves." The New Yorker magazine called this novel by Matthew Thomas "the greatest Alzheimer's novel yet." Published in 2014, "We Are Not Ourselves" paints an intimate portrait of the Leary
family's struggles as their beloved patriarch develops Alzheimer's.
Super Food: Sunflower Seeds
Tiny yet tasty, sunflower seeds have many nutritional benefits. They are rich in vitamin E, which keeps your heart healthy and fights infection, and are a good source of selenium, which helps repair damaged cells. Sunflower seeds have magnesium and copper, which promote bone health. Magnesium can also reduce the severity of asthma and help prevent migraine headaches. Add sunflower seeds to salad, coleslaw, granola, yogurt, and stir-fries.

Make sure to tell all the grandparents you know how special they are on National Grandparents Day, the first Sunday after Labor Day. Grandparents remember how we were way back when ... and help guide us

GAFFNEY HOUSING AUTHORITY AFTER-HOURS MAINTENANCE PROTOCOL
Routine Maintenance requests between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM should be made by calling the main office at (864) 489-3193. After-hours calls are Monday through Thursday beginning at 5:00 PM and ending at 7:00 AM. Weekends begin at 5:00 PM on Thursdays and end on Mondays at 7:00 AM. After-Hours Maintenance is for emergencies only.
There will be a $25.00 charge for all Nuisance calls.
Emergencies:
Apartment is flooding (busted water pipes, busted water heater, broken supply lines, etc.).
• No heat
• Resident smells natural gas.
• Refrigerator goes completely out.
• Stopped-up commode
• Air conditioner not working. (All calls for AC after 8:00 PM will be addressed the following day.)
Lockouts:
• Lockout requests must come from an adult household member. Any requests after 8:00 PM will be taken care of the following day.
